Montaire Icelandic Horses

Montaire Icelandic Horses has been raising and breeding icelandic horses on a 125-acre farm in Middleburg, Virginia since 2015, making it one of the rare dedicated icelandic horse facilities in the mid-Atlantic region.

Owner Antje Freygang established the farm after years of boarding her horses in neighboring states, purchasing the Middleburg property with the intent to fill a gap in Northern Virginia — at the time, there were no local trainers, farriers, or veterinarians with experience in the breed. The farm sits in Loudoun County, roughly an hour west of Washington, D.C., in the heart of Virginia's horse country.

The grounds include a covered riding arena, a 250-meter FEIF-sanctioned oval track, a seven-stall barn, an outside jumping course, and riding paths throughout the property. For anyone searching for icelandic horses for sale in Virginia, Montaire is one of only a handful of breeding and training facilities of its kind in the entire country.

The program encompasses breeding services and evaluations, riding lessons for children and adults, and regular clinics and competitions that draw enthusiasts from across the United States. Montaire has hosted USIHC national ranking shows and served as the venue for the North American Youth Cup, reflecting the farm's role as a regional hub for the breed.
