Cream
Cream Syrian hamsters carry color genetics that produce a pale, even coat ranging from soft beige to warm cream. In the fancy, black-eyed cream and red-eyed cream are commonly distinguished, and related names such as ivory or saffron may appear when cream is combined with other color genes. Cream can reduce or hide the visible effect of darker pigments, so two similar-looking animals may not breed the same. Patterns such as dominant spot or spotted markings can sit on top of a cream base, making the animal look mostly white with cream patches.
For owners, a cream Syrian is cared for like any other Syrian hamster: solitary housing after weaning, deep bedding, a roomy escape-resistant enclosure, a solid wheel, and regular checks of teeth, nails, skin, and scent glands. Pale coats show staining from damp bedding or urine corners quickly, which can help flag cleaning or health issues. Breeders value cream lines for their clear color, but they need accurate background information because cream may mask genes that reappear in later litters. Long-haired cream hamsters need extra checking around the hips and skirt where bedding can tangle.
