Cinnamon
Cinnamon Syrian hamsters are a color variety in which the normal dark pigment is diluted, giving a warm ginger to orange-brown coat and red or ruby eyes. They may be recorded as solid cinnamon or cinnamon-golden in some descriptions, or paired with dominant spot or tortoiseshell patterning. Because hamster color names vary by club and pet-trade usage, cinnamon is best identified by both coat tone and eye color rather than by a store label alone. The animal is still Mesocricetus auratus, the solitary golden hamster species kept as the common pet Syrian.
Care revolves around ordinary Syrian hamster needs rather than the color: individual housing, deep diggable bedding, a secure enclosure, a suitably large wheel, and a diet based on a quality hamster mix with appropriate protein. Red-eyed hamsters may appear more sensitive to bright light, so dim hides and predictable handling are helpful. For breeding, cinnamon is a genetic trait that can be carried unseen and combined with cream, golden, or patterned lines; pairings should be planned with records rather than guessed from appearance. Pets from cinnamon lines should be chosen for alertness, clear eyes, good body condition, and calm handling response.
