Vienna Medium Face
The Vienna medium face is a Viennese tumbler-type pigeon identified by head and beak proportion. In the Vienna face group, short-faced birds are more extreme, while medium-faced birds keep a somewhat longer, more functional face without losing the compact urban tumbler look. The breed is associated with Austria's long fancy-pigeon tradition, where small differences in skull, beak, eye, and posture separate closely related varieties.
Medium-faced Viennese pigeons are often easier to manage than very short-faced strains, but breeders still need moderation. The head should be attractive and characteristic while allowing normal feeding, pairing, and rearing. Selection also includes color, body tightness, feather quality, and a lively but settled temperament. These birds suit clean, secure lofts rather than harsh free-range conditions. Buyers should compare the face length with both short-faced and long-faced relatives, because the value of the variety lies in that middle balance rather than in simple small size.
