Indian Fantail
The Indian fantail is an ornamental pigeon developed around the dramatic fan-shaped tail that gives the breed its name. Compared with smaller European-style fantails, Indian fantails are often larger, more heavily feathered, and carried with a high tail, arched posture, and a showy outline. Many lines have foot feathering, and some carry a crest, though details depend on the standard and breeder tradition.
Indian fantails are kept mainly for exhibition and loft display, so management centers on clean bedding, protected perches, and room for the tail to stay intact. Breeding pairs may need careful observation because heavy tails and feathering can interfere with mating or nest cleanliness. Good keepers handle them gently and select for balance, not just tail size.
