Coronet
The coronet guinea pig is a long-haired cavy breed with a single crest, or coronet, on the forehead. It resembles a silky long-coated guinea pig but is distinguished by that head rosette set into the flowing coat. Coronets can come in many colors and patterns, so the defining features are coat length, smooth fall, and the placement and quality of the crest.
Coronets require regular grooming to stay clean and comfortable. Pet homes often keep the hair trimmed, especially around the rear, while show animals need more intensive coat management. Owners should check for mats, bedding caught in the coat, skin irritation, and overgrown nails. Like all guinea pigs, coronets need unlimited hay, vitamin C, fresh water, spacious housing, and a compatible companion. Breeders should balance coat and crest goals with sound body type, fertility, temperament, and easy daily care.
