Alpaca
The alpaca guinea pig is a long-haired, curly-coated cavy breed related in appearance to the Peruvian type but with textured waves or curls. The coat grows long over the body and can part, sweep, or curl depending on grooming and line. Alpacas appear in many guinea pig colors, but their breed identity comes from coat length and curl rather than a particular shade.
Alpacas need committed coat care. Pet owners usually trim the coat to keep the animal clean and comfortable, while show homes may wrap, groom, and manage hair more carefully. Daily checks help prevent mats, urine scald, bedding tangles, and hidden skin issues. Like all guinea pigs, alpacas need constant hay, vitamin C, social housing with compatible companions, and roomy enclosures. Breeders should select for healthy coat texture along with sound bodies, good temperament, and easy movement.
