Coronet
The coronet guinea pig is a longhair with a smooth, flowing coat and a single crest on the forehead. The hair on the face points backward, while the coat spreads around the sides and over the hindquarters. Its forehead crest distinguishes it from the silkie, called sheltie in Britain, and its smooth coat distinguishes it from the curly merino. The coronet is recognized in ARBA's Standard of Perfection for 2026 to 2030. It also has a British Cavy Council Full Standard, with the current Sheltie Varieties Cavy Club standard updated in 2024.
The European standard includes it as a longhaired breed. British show guidance allows any color or mixture of colors and emphasizes the crest's shape, coat density, texture and presentation. Rosettes elsewhere in the coat are not part of the desired exhibition form. Daily grooming helps keep the long hair clean and free of tangles. In British shows, the coat is arranged with a central parting on a show board.
