Nederlandse Kooikerhondje
The Nederlandse Kooikerhondje is a small Dutch sporting dog developed around eendenkooi, the managed duck-decoy ponds of the Netherlands. A white-and-orange dog worked along the screens beside the water, using movement and tail action to draw ducks toward the trap channels while the kooiker handled the pond. The breed has a silky medium coat, feathered ears that may carry dark tips called earrings, and a light, busy outline that can look softer than its working past really was.
In homes, a Kooikerhondje usually does best with calm structure, thoughtful social exposure, and work for its quick mind. Many enjoy obedience, scent games, agility, field-flavored training, or long walks where recall and impulse control are practiced carefully. The coat needs brushing around ears, tail, and feathering, while breeders monitor patellas, eyes, and inherited conditions within their lines. Buyers should look past neat markings and ask whether the dog is steady, responsive, and able to recover from novelty without becoming sharp or worried.
