Cardigan Welsh Corgi
The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is a distinctive dog breed known for its long, low-set body and large, expressive ears. This breed is one of the two types of Welsh Corgis, distinguished by its bushy tail (unlike the tail-less Pembroke) and historical use as a drover and farm dog in the rugged terrain of Cardiganshire, Wales. Cardigans possess a robust and sturdy build, typically weighing between 25 to 38 pounds, with a dense, weather-resistant double coat that comes in a wide variety of colors, including brindle, blue merle, black and white with or without tan points, and red.
They are acclaimed for their intelligence, agility, and good-natured temperament, making them not only excellent working dogs but also affectionate family companions. Cardigans are loyal and devoted, often developing strong bonds with their families. Although they are generally adaptable, they thrive in environments where they have plenty of space to exercise and play. Despite their small stature, Cardigans are known for their energy and stamina, requiring regular physical activity to keep them healthy and happy. Socialization and training from an early age are beneficial, as their keen herding instincts can sometimes lead to bossy behavior. With their characteristic blend of charm and diligence, Cardigan Welsh Corgis make delightful members of households that appreciate their spunky, yet gentle nature.
