Boxer
The Boxer is a medium-large German working dog developed from Bullenbeisser and bulldog-type ancestors. It was used for guarding, hunting assistance, and later police, military, sport, and companion work. A Boxer is square, muscular, and short-coated, most often fawn or brindle with a black mask and varying white markings. The undershot jaw, blunt muzzle, and animated expression are key breed features, though sound breathing and athletic movement are more important than exaggeration.
Boxers are typically people-focused, playful, and slow to act fully mature, so they do best with regular training and close family involvement. They need daily exercise but should be protected from overheating, especially in warm or humid weather. The short coat is easy to maintain, but nails, teeth, skin, and body condition need attention. Health screening is a major buyer consideration, particularly for cardiomyopathy, aortic stenosis, degenerative myelopathy, hips, and the cancers seen in the breed. Natural ears and tails are common in many countries, while cropping and docking depend on local law and registry practice.
