Sand Meadow Farm

Sand Meadow Farm raises Icelandic horses in Honeoye Falls, New York, just south of Rochester in the Finger Lakes region. Steven and Andrea Barber have been deeply involved with the breed for over 25 years, bringing together importing, breeding, and training under one program.

The Barbers are active members of the United States Icelandic Horse Congress, with Andrea serving as President Emeritus of the USIHC and as a past US Breeding Leader. Both are founding members of the Saint Skutla Icelandic Horse Club, a regional club covering Central and Western New York. Andrea also led a multi-year collaboration with Cornell University to establish a standard blood profile specific to the Icelandic horse breed, a project completed successfully and published in the USIHC's Icelandic Horse Quarterly.

Quality over quantity guides the farm's approach to Icelandic horse breeding in New York. Horses carrying the Sand Meadow name come from the farm's own breeding program or are carefully selected imports, with character and gait quality given particular emphasis. The farm also offers riding lessons and hosts annual clinics featuring trainers from Taktur Icelandics. With proven bloodlines, FEIF breeding evaluations, and regular trips to Iceland to research and ride prospective horses, the program reflects a long-standing commitment to the breed.
