Icelandic Thunder

Icelandic Thunder raises Icelandic horses in Philippi, West Virginia, in the Appalachian highlands of central West Virginia about an hour southeast of Clarksburg. Denise and James Taylor run the operation as a family-owned farm.

The program carries registered stock with USIHC numbers on record, and the horses include both mares and stallions selected for the breed's five gaits, with the tolt as the gait of choice across much of their herd. Several mares have proven breeding records, having raised multiple foals, and the farm also carries horses that express the silver dapple gene and other notable color genetics.

Health screening and genetic testing are conducted on breeding stock before pairing, with the goal of producing Icelandic horses that are sound in both body and gait.
