Standard Bronze

The Standard Bronze turkey is a heritage bronze-plumaged domestic turkey, separate from the heavier Broad Breasted Bronze commercial type. Its dark, metallic body color and bronze wing and tail pattern come from older standard-bred turkey selection. In poultry aviculture, Standard Bronze birds are valued for traditional type, natural mating potential in many lines, and a closer connection to historic farm turkeys than industrial meat hybrids.

Keepers should still remember that Standard Bronze turkeys are large birds needing space, strong fencing, dry roosts, and feed that supports growth without forcing it. Breeders select for color, body shape, fertility, temperament, and sound legs, not only for size. Clear labeling matters because buyers may expect heritage breeding ability from Standard Bronze stock, while broad-breasted commercial birds can have very different management needs.

Colors: Black, Blue Slate, Bourbon Red, Bronze, Brown with Metallic Sheen, Buff, Chocolate, Mottled, Narragansett, Penciled, Pied, Red Bronze, Royal Palm, Slate, White

Turkey eggs take 28 days to hatch in an incubator, counted from the day you set them. Expect the first pips around day 27 and most poults on day 28; a cool incubator or eggs that sat in storage for a couple of weeks can push the hatch a day later. That 28-day figure is […]
