Super Hypo

Trait

Super Hypo leopard geckos are selected to have no dark spots on the body, often leaving a cleaner yellow, orange, or tangerine appearance than a normal leopard gecko. Spots may still remain on the head or tail. The trait is generally treated as line-bred color and pattern refinement rather than a single simple switch, so quality depends on selection across related animals.

The husbandry is ordinary leopard gecko care, with attention to healthy weight, good sheds, and strong feeding rather than color alone. Super Hypo animals are commonly combined with tangerine, carrot tail, albino, or giant lines, which can make labels long and sometimes confusing. Clear photos of the body, head, and tail are useful for buyers. Breeders should avoid implying that reduced spotting proves a hidden genotype unless they have parentage or breeding results to support it.

How Super Hypo works

Built by selecting breeders over generations, not a single gene, so there is no het, super or pairing odds, and looks vary.

Super Hypo means a Hypo with no spots on the body. It is a selected look, not the two-copy form of a Hypo gene. One reference lists it as polygenic.

Leopard Gecko Care: Enclosure, Heat, UVB, Feeding, and Shedding

A leopard gecko comes out at dusk, lives on the ground rather than in branches, closes its eyes with real eyelids, and takes most of its body heat from whatever it is lying on. Nearly every care decision follows from those four facts, and most advice online ignores at least one. Three pillars of the […]

How Long Do Leopard Geckos Live? Lifespan, Aging, and Records

Veterinary references place leopard gecko longevity around 20 years in captivity, and a well-documented animal can reach or exceed 20. The Royal Veterinary College says up to 20 years, Merck lists 20-plus, and the University of Montreal veterinary hospital gives a 20-year captive average. Those are planning references, not a guarantee. Date of hatch, lifelong […]
