Blizzard

Gene

Blizzard is a recessive leopard gecko morph that greatly reduces the typical spotted pattern, often producing a plain gray, white, yellowish, or lavender-tinted animal. Unlike albino morphs, Blizzard by itself does not remove dark pigment in the same way, and some individuals may show subtle shading or occasional dark speckling. It is valued for a clean, patternless look that can combine with several other morphs.

A Blizzard leopard gecko needs normal leopard gecko husbandry: secure floor space, a warm hide, a cool side, a humid hide for shedding, and a balanced insect diet. Breeders should distinguish Blizzard from Murphy patternless and from albino Blizzard combinations, because similar pale adults may carry different genetics. Pairing plans are most reliable when the recessive status and any hidden hets are documented.

How Blizzard works

Leopard geckos show Blizzard only with two copies. One copy makes a het, which looks normal but can pass Blizzard on.

Leopard Gecko Care: Enclosure, Heat, UVB, Feeding, and Shedding

A leopard gecko comes out at dusk, lives on the ground rather than in branches, closes its eyes with real eyelids, and takes most of its body heat from whatever it is lying on. Nearly every care decision follows from those four facts, and most advice online ignores at least one. Three pillars of the […]

How Long Do Leopard Geckos Live? Lifespan, Aging, and Records

Veterinary references place leopard gecko longevity around 20 years in captivity, and a well-documented animal can reach or exceed 20. The Royal Veterinary College says up to 20 years, Merck lists 20-plus, and the University of Montreal veterinary hospital gives a 20-year captive average. Those are planning references, not a guarantee. Date of hatch, lifelong […]
