Noir Desir Black Eye

Gene

Noir Desir Black Eye, often shortened to NDBE, is a recessive leopard gecko eye trait: hatchlings have fully black eyes, and the black can spread out or fade with age. A gecko needs two copies to show it, and test crosses show it is a different gene from Eclipse. Eye deformities are reported in some NDBE geckos, and one reference reports infertility in many visual females.

How Noir Desir Black Eye works

Leopard geckos show Noir Desir Black Eye only with two copies. One copy makes a het, which looks normal but can pass Noir Desir Black Eye on.

Leopard Gecko Care: Enclosure, Heat, UVB, Feeding, and Shedding

A leopard gecko comes out at dusk, lives on the ground rather than in branches, closes its eyes with real eyelids, and takes most of its body heat from whatever it is lying on. Nearly every care decision follows from those four facts, and most advice online ignores at least one. Three pillars of the […]

How Long Do Leopard Geckos Live? Lifespan, Aging, and Records

Veterinary references place leopard gecko longevity around 20 years in captivity, and a well-documented animal can reach or exceed 20. The Royal Veterinary College says up to 20 years, Merck lists 20-plus, and the University of Montreal veterinary hospital gives a 20-year captive average. Those are planning references, not a guarantee. Date of hatch, lifelong […]
