Enigma
Enigma is a leopard gecko morph associated with disrupted spotting, variable pattern expression, and a serious neurological problem often called Enigma syndrome. Affected geckos may circle, tilt the head, miss prey, react poorly to stress, or show balance trouble. Severity varies between individuals, and some animals appear manageable in quiet conditions, but the welfare concern is inseparable from the morph's reputation. It should not be described as only a pattern project or treated as a routine beginner morph.
Keepers with an Enigma leopard gecko should prioritize low-stress housing, a simple enclosure layout, careful feeding observation, and minimal unnecessary handling. Many breeders no longer produce Enigma animals because symptoms can pass through breeding lines and may worsen under stress. Anyone considering one should ask direct questions about symptoms, parentage, feeding success, and daily care needs. Quality of life, not pattern, should guide decisions about housing, resale, breeding, and veterinary support over time.
