Texel
The Texel guinea pig is a long-haired curly-coated breed, often recognized by ringlets or waves that cover the body and continue into the furnishings. It developed from long-coated and rex-type cavy backgrounds, producing a softer, more curled look than the straight sweep of a Silkie or the forward coat of a Peruvian. Texels can be shown in many colors, but coat texture and length are the central traits.
Texels demand patient grooming because curls can hide mats before they are visible from the outside. Pet owners often trim the coat shorter around the belly and rear to keep the animal clean and mobile. Breeders need to balance curl, density, and body condition with calm temperament, since repeated grooming is part of ordinary care. Clean housing and careful hay management make a noticeable difference for this breed.
