Sheltie
The Sheltie guinea pig is a long-coated cavy whose hair flows backward from the face instead of falling forward over the eyes. In some registries and regions the same general breed type is known as the Silkie, and the clean facial outline helps distinguish it from the Peruvian. A well-kept Sheltie has a smooth, sweeping coat that emphasizes length, texture, and body shape without a crest.
Shelties are manageable pets when their coat is kept in a practical trim, but full show coats require careful grooming, clean bedding, and protection from tangles. Owners should pay attention to the area behind the ears, along the belly, and around the rear, where mats and staining develop first. Breeders work with coat density and direction while still selecting for steady temperament, since the animal must accept regular combing and inspection.
