King Shepherd
The King Shepherd is a large North American shepherd-type dog developed from German Shepherd Dog lines with influence from other substantial working and guardian breeds in some programs. It is usually taller and heavier than the standard German Shepherd, with a strong frame, deep body, dense coat, and a calmer, family-guardian presentation when well bred. Because it is a relatively modern breed, appearance and registry expectations can differ among clubs and breeders.
A King Shepherd asks for the same seriousness people bring to any large, intelligent working dog. Good breeding should prioritize stable nerves, hips and elbows, sound movement, and a temperament that can live politely in a household. These dogs benefit from structured exercise, clear training, and early socialization around visitors and everyday public settings. Their size also makes manners, leash skills, grooming tolerance, and weight control practical necessities rather than optional polish.
