Zebu

The Zebu, also known as Bos indicus, is a distinctive and resilient cattle breed, renowned for its adaptability to hot and humid climates. Originating from the Indian subcontinent, Zebu cattle are easily recognizable by a prominent hump over their shoulders, large drooping ears, and a pronounced dewlap. These physical traits are believed to assist in thermoregulation, making them particularly suited for life in tropical regions. Zebus have a sleek, short coat that comes in various colors, typically shades of gray, white, or brown. They are smaller than many other cattle breeds, but they compensate with their hardiness and high resistance to at least some parasitic infections and tropical diseases.

Zebu animals play a significant cultural and agricultural role across South Asia, Africa, and parts of South America, often employed in draught work due to their strength and endurance. Additionally, they're also valued for their milk and meat production, albeit in lower quantities compared to some more specialized breeds. The Zebu's ability to thrive on sparse vegetation and their robust resistance to environmental stresses make them a sustainable and practical choice for farmers in challenging climates, ensuring their continued importance in global agriculture. Their docile nature and adaptability allow them to be easily managed, enhancing their appeal in mixed farming systems worldwide.
