Australian Braford
Australian Braford cattle are a stabilized beef composite developed in Queensland from Hereford and Brahman breeding. They typically show the red body and white face associated with Hereford cattle, along with some indicine traits such as loose skin, heat tolerance, and better resistance to ticks and tropical stress. The Australian type was shaped for northern beef country, where cattle must walk, breed, and raise calves through heat, parasites, and variable pasture quality.
Commercial producers use Australian Brafords as straightbred cows, herd bulls, and crossbreeding animals in extensive grazing systems. Practical selection pays close attention to fertility, temperament, eye and udder soundness, sheath and navel structure, and calves that can grow without heavy grain feeding. Seedstock buyers should check breed society requirements and the actual performance records of a line, because Brahman influence, polled status, frame size, and coat pattern can vary between herds.
