Russian Tabby

Russian Tabby

Russian tabby is best treated as a tabby-patterned cat label attached to Russian-type domestic cats rather than a universally recognized registry breed. It may describe cats with Russian Blue style body type or regional Russian ancestry that show mackerel, classic, spotted, ticked, or silver tabby markings instead of a solid blue or white coat. The useful identifier is the patterned coat on a moderate, fine-boned, shorthaired cat, not a fixed breed standard shared across every registry.

For owners and breeders, the label matters most when a cat is being listed, adopted, or recorded outside a formal Russian Blue program. Temperament and care are those of domestic cats with similar coat length: steady indoor enrichment, weight control, routine dental care, and normal grooming for a short coat. Anyone buying a Russian tabby should ask what the seller means by the name, whether parents are registered or simply Russian-looking, and which health screening or pedigree records are actually available.

How Much Does a Cat Cost? (2026)

Picture this: You’re scrolling through adorable kitten photos, your heart melting at those tiny whiskers and bright eyes. You can almost hear the purring. But then reality hits. How much does a cat actually cost? If you’re asking yourself “how much does a cat cost?” you’re already asking the right question. Too many people fall […]

Kitten Vaccination Schedule: Which Shots, at What Age, and What Comes Next

Most kittens start their core vaccines at 6 to 8 weeks of age, get a booster every 3 to 4 weeks until they are 16 to 20 weeks old, and then get one more booster at about 6 months. On top of that combination shot, a kitten gets a rabies vaccine at the age its […]

How Long Are Cats Pregnant? Cat Gestation Period, Signs, and Due Date

Cats are pregnant for about 63 to 65 days, or roughly nine weeks, counted from mating. The Merck Veterinary Manual gives 60 to 65 days as the usual span, and a large study of more than 1,000 pedigree litters in the UK found an average of 65.1 days (Sparkes and colleagues, 2006). If you know […]

Cat Coat Colors: Tabby, Tortoiseshell, Calico and Color Genetics

Cat coat colors describe pigment, while patterns describe where that pigment appears. Black, orange and blue are color terms; tabby, tortoiseshell, calico and white spotting describe arrangements that can combine with different colors. None of those labels by itself proves a cat’s breed or full genotype. Use the free cat pedigree chart maker to organize […]

Cat Health Record Template: Visits, Tests, Medicines, and Reminders

A cat health record is a timeline of examinations, tests, vaccinations, medications and changes you observe at home. Start a free cat profile and keep that history with the animal rather than in disconnected messages or photographs. The cat breed index offers context, but a breed label never substitutes for the cat’s own veterinary record. […]

Cattery Website: What Kitten Buyers Need to Know

A cattery website should explain the cats you breed, how kittens are raised, what evidence buyers can review, and how your placement process works. Organize it around the questions a kitten buyer asks, with separate pages for your breeding cats, current litters and retired adults when relevant. Creatures Websites can turn the cat profiles, photographs, […]
