Grizzle
Grizzle bettas are Betta splendens described by a mottled or freckled color pattern rather than by a fixed breed standard. The term is used for fish with irregular speckling, streaking, or mixed light and dark pigment across the body and fins, sometimes overlapping with marble, pastel, or iridescent lines. Because hobby use varies, one breeder's grizzle may be sold by another as marble, fancy, or variegated. Tail type is separate, so grizzle can appear on delta, crowntail, double tail, dumbo, or halfmoon bettas.
Pattern labels like grizzle are best evaluated in person or through clear current photos, because lighting and age can change how the markings appear. Some fish keep a fairly stable dusted pattern, while marble-influenced individuals may gain or lose patches over time. Care does not differ from other domestic bettas: they need warm tropical water, gentle filtration, access to the surface, and protection from fin damage and fighting. Breeders who work with grizzle patterns usually select for contrast, even distribution, and healthy finnage, but exact results are hard to predict. A good purchase should be based on body condition and behavior as much as the speckled look.
