Double Tail
A double tail betta is a Betta splendens variety with the caudal fin divided into two lobes rather than forming a single tail fan. Many double tails also have a wider dorsal fin and a shorter-looking body, giving them a balanced, broad-finned outline when viewed from the side. The trait appears across many color lines, so a double tail may be red, blue, koi, marble, metallic, butterfly, dragon scale, or another betta pattern while still being defined by tail structure.
Aquarists keep double tail bettas much like other ornamental bettas, but fin shape affects management. Strong filtration flow can tire heavy-finned fish, and sharp decor can tear broad caudal edges. Breeders watch body proportion closely because the trait can be associated with shortened bodies or spinal faults when selected carelessly. For buyers, a healthy double tail should swim cleanly, flare evenly, and show a tail split that enhances movement without making the fish struggle.
