Copper
Copper bettas are domestic Betta splendens selected for a metallic iridescent sheen that shifts with the angle of the light. A good copper may look bronze, silver, gold, lavender, or steel gray as it turns, and the effect can cover the body and fins or combine with masks, marbling, or dragon-scale traits. The metallic color in modern bettas traces to selective breeding within the splendens complex, so copper is best understood as a color line rather than a separate breed.
Lighting strongly affects how a copper betta appears in photos or at a shop, so buyers should judge the fish in normal aquarium light and look for clear eyes, smooth scales, and active behavior. Husbandry is standard for bettas: warm stable water, a secure lid, and low current. Breeders pair coppers with attention to metallic coverage and unwanted red, black, or opaque wash. The color can be strong without heavy dragon scaling, which matters because some thick-scaled lines have eye-covering problems.
