Cambodian
Cambodian is one of the older named color patterns in domestic Betta splendens. The classic Cambodian betta has a pale flesh-colored or light cream body with red fins, though the term is also used more broadly for pale-bodied fish with differently colored fins. It arose from Southeast Asian fighting and ornamental betta strains and remains common in veil, plakat, halfmoon, and other fin types. The main identifier is the reduced dark pigment on the body, not a connection to a separate Cambodian species.
Care does not differ from other domestic bettas, but the light body can make color changes, stress bars, and minor injuries more visible. Breeders working with Cambodian lines select for a clean pale body, strong fin color, and little dark speckling; crossing to heavily pigmented fish may bring back darker bodies. Pet buyers should avoid assuming a washed-out fish is Cambodian without checking health, because poor condition can also mute color. Warm, stable water and single housing for territorial males remain the basics.
