Alien
Alien bettas are a modern domestic betta type, usually sold in the Betta splendens hobby but influenced by wild splendens-complex genetics. They are not a separate wild species called alien. The name refers to the metallic, otherworldly look: dark bodies overlaid with green, blue, teal, or copper iridescence, often in tight scale netting, with shorter plakat-style fins and banded or patterned edges. Some lines are marketed as green alien, blue alien, or copper alien depending on the sheen.
Care is the same warm, still-to-gently filtered aquarium setup used for other short-finned bettas, with a covered surface because bettas breathe air. Many alien males are active and strongly territorial, so single housing is safest outside controlled breeding. Breeding alien bettas takes planning, as compatibility, fertility, and color inheritance can vary between hybrid-influenced lines. Buyers should look for clear eyes, smooth scales, strong appetite, and normal swimming rather than judging only the metallic color.
