Gene
Ultramel is a recessive ball python gene that reduces dark pigment, leaving warm, high-contrast colors; despite the name it lightens rather than darkens. A snake needs two copies to show it. It is a separate gene from Albino and Lavender Albino.
Ball pythons show Ultramel only with two copies. One copy makes a het, which looks normal but can pass Ultramel on.
Not allelic with Albino or Lavender Albino. The Crider line proved compatible with Ultramel in a 2014 test breeding. Whether Monarch or Caramel Albino share its gene is unproven.
Example: het × het gives about 1 in 4 Ultramel per egg (1/4).
