Sahara is a recessive ball python gene that changes both color and pattern. A snake needs two copies to show it, and a het usually looks normal. Bred to a normal, every baby is a het that looks normal.
Ball pythons show Sahara only with two copies. One copy makes a het, which looks normal but can pass Sahara on.
Some breeders ask whether Sahara is the same gene as Desert Ghost; this is untested.
Example: het × het gives about 1 in 4 Sahara per egg (1/4).
