Gene
Black Lace is a dark ball python gene, often with a reddish head, and it is a different gene from Lace. It is recessive: a snake needs two copies to show it, and a snake with one copy is a het that usually looks normal.
Ball pythons show Black Lace only with two copies. One copy makes a het, which looks normal but can pass Black Lace on.

Guides and articles for Black Lace ball python owners.
A ball python spends most of its life doing very little, in a warm dark place, waiting. That is not a defect. It is a west and central African ambush predator that hides in rodent burrows and termite mounds through the day and comes out at dusk, and most good decisions about its care follow […]
Ball pythons commonly live 15 to 20 years in captivity, and some live longer. Merck gives that planning range, while the Royal Veterinary College says up to 25 years. Much older animals are documented, but an exceptional record should not become a promise attached to every hatchling. Create a free ball python profile so age […]
A ball python feeding and shed log is most useful when it records events without guessing their cause. Keep what was offered, when it was offered, what you observed afterward, and the date and character of each shed. Creatures supports animal records and care plans so future tasks and completed events can stay separate. This […]
