Axanthic

An axanthic ball python is a recessive morph that reduces or removes yellow pigment, giving the snake a gray, silver, black, and white appearance instead of the warmer brown and gold tones of a normal ball python. Hatchlings can look especially crisp, while some lines darken or brown slightly with age. Several axanthic lines exist, and not all are genetically compatible with one another, so the word axanthic should be paired with line information when available.

Husbandry is ordinary ball python care: secure hides, steady heat gradients, suitable humidity, clean substrate, and calm handling. The main practical issue is documentation. Breeders need to know whether an animal is from a VPI, TSK, Jolliff, or other axanthic line before planning pairings, because incompatible lines may not produce visual axanthic offspring together. Buyers should also understand that het axanthic animals usually look normal. Good records protect both animal value and the accuracy of future listings.
