Leucistic

Leucistic axolotls are pale Ambystoma mexicanum with reduced body pigment but dark eyes. They are often white, pinkish, or cream, sometimes with freckles on the face or body, and they are one of the most familiar axolotl morphs in the pet trade. Leucistic is not the same as albino; the dark eyes show that melanin is still present in some tissues.

Their popularity should not obscure their husbandry needs. Leucistic axolotls require cool, clean, dechlorinated water, a cycled aquarium, low current, hides, and feeding that supports steady growth without obesity. Pale skin can make redness, fungus, or injury easier to spot, but owners still need to test water rather than relying on appearance. Breeders may distinguish clean leucistic, dirty leucistic, and piebald-related looks, yet all should be represented honestly so buyers understand whether they are purchasing a pet, a breeding animal, or a specific morph line.

Colors: Albino, Axanthic, Chimera, Copper, Dirty Leucistic, Gfp, Golden Albino, Leucistic, Melanoid, Mosaic, Piebald, Silver Dalmatian, White Albino, Wild Type
