Golden Albino
Golden albino axolotls are Ambystoma mexicanum morphs that lack melanin but retain yellow or golden pigment, giving them a warm cream, yellow, peach, or gold appearance. They often have light eyes and pinkish gills, and some show shiny patches from iridophores. Golden albino is different from a white albino because the yellow tones are more visible, though individual shade can vary with line, age, diet, and lighting.
Golden albinos need gentle, cool-water axolotl care rather than special treatment based on color. Bright display lights can be stressful, and pale animals make it easier to notice skin irritation or gill problems when water quality slips. Owners should provide hides, stable filtration, appropriate temperatures, and safe food items such as earthworms of suitable size. Breeders track albino and golden expression, but color should not outrank health, limb structure, gill condition, and clear parentage records when selecting pairs.
