GFP
GFP axolotls carry green fluorescent protein, a trait originally associated with laboratory lines and now present in some hobby stock. Under blue or ultraviolet light, GFP tissue can glow green, and the effect may appear across the body or be easier to see in pale morphs. GFP can exist alongside leucistic, albino, melanoid, wild-type, or other color forms, so it is best described as an axolotl morph trait rather than a normal daylight color.
Responsible keepers should not expose axolotls to harsh lighting just to show the glow. Brief viewing under suitable light is different from designing a bright tank around an amphibian that needs hides, cool water, and low stress. Care still centers on stable nitrogen cycling, safe foods, careful handling, and water temperatures that protect health. Breeders should state whether GFP is present and what color form accompanies it, since the trait is inherited and can affect how offspring are described, photographed, and sold.
