Albino

Albino axolotls are Ambystoma mexicanum morphs that lack melanin, leaving them pale, white, cream, or yellowish depending on other pigments present. Their eyes are light rather than dark, and the gills may appear pink to red because blood vessels show through the pale tissue. Albino is a genetic color morph, not a separate species, and it can appear in forms such as white albino or golden albino depending on the rest of the pigment pattern.

Keepers should remember that albino axolotls are still cool-water amphibians with delicate skin and external gills. They generally do best in dimmer aquariums with hides, clean dechlorinated water, low current, and temperatures kept out of warm tropical ranges. Bright light can be stressful, especially for pale animals, so tank design matters more than display lighting. Breeders track albino genetics because the trait is inherited, but pairing decisions should also consider vigor, body shape, health history, and avoidance of careless inbreeding.
