Sunset Chinchillas

Sunset Chinchillas has been breeding chinchillas in the Fort Worth, Texas area since 1998, making it one of the longer-running chinchilla programs in the Dallas-Fort Worth region. Tara Wylie runs the program as a home-based hobby operation, with a hands-on approach that includes daily handling of young animals.

The program works with an unusually broad range of color mutations, including violet, sapphire, ebony, angora, and numerous combination colors such as beige violet, TOV tan, and blue diamond, among others. Selectively shaping the herd over many generations has produced animals with a recognizable look — particularly in head structure, ear size and placement, and color clarity — to the point that Sunset-bred chinchillas are identifiable by other experienced breeders on the show floor.

Angora chinchillas are a notable focus, with show results that include champion and reserve champion placements at regional and national MCBA events. The stated goals for the angora line center on health, temperament, and show quality. Those looking for chinchillas for sale in Texas from a program with decades of documented breeding history will find Sunset Chinchillas a well-established name in the hobby.
