The operation grew from a single chinchilla named Bug — a birthday gift that quickly turned into a shared family endeavor — and now runs a herd of around 145 breeding animals, making it one of the more substantial small-scale chinchilla programs in the region.

Owner Stephan Kern and his son run the day-to-day care together, and every kit is handled regularly from an early age to encourage sociability before going to a new home. Families who adopt from Cuddle Bug Chinchillas also receive a complimentary one-year membership to the Chinchilla Club.
