Rob Varner

Rob Varner, Percheron horses, Chicago, Illinois, in the Midwest, raises draft horses suited for light farm work and family riding. He has been working with draft bloodlines for over a decade and follows guidelines set by the Percheron Horse Association, including regular health exams and temperament evaluations.

Mares carry foals in a quiet maternity stable, and newborns begin gentle ground training at three months. Foals are turned out daily in pasture paddocks with adult mares, and they receive early handling to build trust and confidence. Nutrition plans are designed in consultation with equine veterinary specialists, and farrier visits every eight weeks support hoof health.

All horses live in barns attached to the house, keeping them socialized as part of daily routine. Several of Varner’s horses have appeared in local 4-H exhibitions and community parades, reflecting their calm disposition and adaptability.
