Lonesome Dove Ranch
Lonesome Dove Ranch raises purebred and commercial Gelbvieh cattle in Ponteix, in the southwest corner of Saskatchewan, roughly an hour south of Swift Current. Ross and Tara Davidson own and operate the ranch together with their children, continuing a family tradition of raising beef cattle that spans most of their lives.
The operation carries both a purebred herd of red and black Gelbvieh and a sizeable commercial Gelbvieh cow herd, giving the ranch depth across both seedstock and commercial markets. A female program rounds out the offering, with select purebred heifer calves made available through fall sales each year.
The Davidson family co-hosts an annual bull sale alongside neighboring Davidson Gelbvieh, a partnership that has grown into one of the larger concentrations of purebred red and black Gelbvieh bulls in Canada. The program's guiding priority is raising cattle that are sound, functional, and maternal — animals proven to perform under the demanding conditions of southwest Saskatchewan. Buyers looking for Gelbvieh cattle in Saskatchewan will find a program with a long-running show record at Canadian Western Agribition in Regina, including multiple champion and reserve champion titles earned by ranch-raised females over the years.
