L&M Ranch
L&M Ranch raises large black hogs in the Wahatoya Valley near La Veta, in south-central Colorado's Huerfano County, roughly an hour and a half south of Pueblo. Liorah Crockett and her family operate the ranch with a focus on natural husbandry and regenerative agricultural practices across irrigated mountain pastures and native dryland grazing ground.
The large black pigs at L&M Ranch are raised on pasture alongside the ranch's cattle, sheep, and poultry, with feed that includes organic grains, garden vegetables, and foraged grasses. Hogs rotate across multi-acre fields and mountain meadows, and the operation is designed to minimize stress throughout an animal's life. Working border collies and livestock guardian dogs, including Great Pyrenees and Anatolian breeds, help manage and protect the animals across the property.
The ranch holds membership with the Large Black Hog Association and participates in the farm-to-table market, selling directly to individuals, restaurants, and at farmers markets. Buyers looking for large black pigs for sale in Colorado will find a program grounded in soil health, planned rotational grazing, and a whole-farm philosophy that treats heritage breed conservation as a practical part of diversified small-scale agriculture.
