Jesse L. Birkenholz

Jesse L. Birkenholz breeds Percheron horses in Hopkins, Missouri, in Central Missouri near Kansas City. Over the past 15 years, Jesse has maintained membership in the Percheron Horse Association and partners with local veterinarians for regular health screenings.

Each foal is raised in a pasture-based environment, where daily handling and turnout foster balanced temperaments and strong bone development. Annual farrier visits, nutritional programs with forage-first rations, and routine dental checks support overall wellness. The farm’s roots extend back three generations, with selection focused on soundness, willingness and athletic ability.

Some horses from the program have been placed in therapeutic riding programs and light draft work, a testament to their calm demeanor and reliability. Foaling takes place in well-lit stalls with 24-hour monitoring during peak season, and weaning is gradual to minimize stress. Pasture rotations and shelter management are designed to mirror natural herd dynamics throughout the seasons.
