Fir River Livestock

Fir River Livestock, run by Darcy and Renee Hrebeniuk, raises purebred Gelbvieh and Balancer cattle in Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan, in the northeastern part of the province. The operation is roughly two hours north of Saskatoon and draws buyers from across the prairies and beyond.

The cow herd includes 150 purebred Gelbvieh and Balancer cows alongside 100 commercial Gelbvieh-influence cows. To move the genetics forward, the program relies heavily on artificial insemination and embryo transfer, drawing on elite industry sires to build its annual bull offering. Bulls and females have been sold across Canada and into the United States, and the operation holds the record for the highest-selling Gelbvieh female ever sold in Canada.

Fir River's annual production sale, the Saskatoon Gelbvieh Bull and Female Sale, is held each March in Saskatoon, where bulls are the primary offering. Females move through that sale, select female sales, and private treaty directly off the ranch. The program aims to serve both commercial and purebred cattlemen looking for red and black Gelbvieh cattle for sale in Saskatchewan with deep, proven genetics.
