Cheshire Farm

Cheshire Farm, Milking Devon cattle, Fort Plain, NY, Mohawk Valley near Utica. It works with a small herd dedicated to heritage breed preservation and participates with The Livestock Conservancy. The herd is registered with the American Milking Devon Cattle Association, and animals undergo quarterly veterinary health checks including Johne’s testing.

With more than ten years of experience, owner Doug Cheshire blends traditional farming methods with modern welfare standards. Milk quality is monitored through regular somatic cell count testing to maintain herd health, and several animals have earned placement ribbons at regional livestock shows. Cattle graze on rotational pastures managed for soil health and have access to spacious shelters and clean water year-round. Calves are socialized from birth as part of a family-run operation that values hands-on care and transparency. Their focus on conservation and education extends to local agricultural fairs and school visits.
