Bardwell Farms

Bardwell Farms milking devon cattle in Remsen, NY, in Oneida County and the Mohawk Valley near Utica. Steve Burton and Jude Burton are members of the American Milking Devon Cattle Association and follow routine health screening for their herd.

Their experienced care includes rotational pasture grazing, herd health checks each season and natural calf rearing alongside their mothers. They maintain a refurbished 1892 barn for milking and adhere to low-stress handling to support animal welfare and milk quality. The couple also integrates sustainable practices like composted manure for field fertility and forage grown on site.

In winter their herd is fed hay made from their own alfalfa and timothy fields to maintain consistent nutrition through colder months. Farm guests often remark on the calm demeanor of the cattle and the rich butterfat yield in the milk. Through generations on this family homestead, Bardwell Farms has combined tradition and thoughtful land stewardship.
