Accokeek Foundation

The Accokeek Foundation raises South devon cattle at its National Colonial Farm in Accokeek, Maryland, situated within Piscataway Park along the Potomac River — directly across the water from George Washington's Mount Vernon, roughly 15 miles south of Washington, D.C.

The Foundation is a nonprofit established in 1957 as one of the nation's earliest land trusts, and it partners with the National Park Service to steward 200 acres of the park. Its livestock program exists as part of a broader heritage conservation mission: the animals grazing in Piscataway Park's pastures are rare breeds maintained specifically to preserve genetic diversity and support a more resilient food system for future generations.

South devon cattle for sale in Maryland can be sourced here as part of the Foundation's active effort to connect farmers with heritage breeds. The Foundation makes livestock available to farmers interested in raising heritage breeds, keeping the animals in productive use outside the farm's own pastures.
