Zhongdian

The Zhongdian Yak is a distinct breed found primarily in the high-altitude regions of Yunnan, China, particularly around Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. Known for their resilience and adaptability to harsh mountainous environments, these yaks exhibit a robust physique and are slightly smaller in stature compared to other yak breeds. Their thick, dense coat provides excellent insulation against the cold, characterized by a range of colors from deep black to brown, often with striking white patches on their face and lower legs. Zhongdian Yaks are integral to the local economy and culture, valued for their multifaceted utility in providing milk, meat, and fiber, as well as serving as reliable pack animals. Their docile temperament and sure-footedness make them well-suited to the rugged terrain of their native habitat. Renowned for maintaining genetic traits that allow them to thrive in high-altitude conditions, Zhongdian Yaks contribute not only to agricultural sustenance but also to the biodiversity and cultural richness of the region.
