Wuzishan

The Wuzishan pig is a small Chinese pig from Hainan, associated with the Wuzhi Mountain area. It is known as a miniature or small-bodied local breed and has been used in research as well as local agriculture. Its value comes from compact size, adaptation to island and tropical conditions, and the genetic interest of a distinct Chinese native pig.

Wuzishan pigs need management suited to small but active swine: secure fencing, shade, clean water, and feed measured to prevent excess fat. Research or conservation herds should track family lines carefully because small populations can lose diversity quickly. Buyers should not confuse Wuzishan with generic pet mini pigs. The breed has a specific geographic and genetic identity, and responsible stewardship means preserving that identity while maintaining health and fertility.

How Much Does a Pig Cost? Feeder, Breeding Stock, and Mini Pig Prices

A pig can cost you $50 or $5,000, and both numbers are correct. The reason the same question gives wildly different answers is that “pig” covers three completely separate purchases. A weaned feeder pig you plan to raise for meat usually runs about $50 to $100 per head at auction, moving with its weight. Registered […]

How Long Do Pigs Live? Pet Pig and Farm Pig Lifespans

A pet pig usually lives 10 to 15 years. That is the figure both editions of the Merck Veterinary Manual settle on for potbellied and other miniature pet pigs. Farm pigs are a different question with a different answer: a market hog reaches slaughter weight at around six months, and a breeding sow’s working life […]
