Hikarimoyo
Hikarimoyo is a koi class for metallic patterned koi, usually fish with more than one color and a strong reflective sheen. The group includes varieties such as Hariwake, Kikusui, Kujaku, and metallic versions of familiar red-and-white or patterned looks, depending on show system. The key feature is hikari, the metallic luster that should be visible across the head, body, and fins rather than only in patches. Pattern matters, but shine and clean skin carry much of the impression.
Owners evaluating Hikarimoyo should look at the fish in good light, checking whether the metallic finish is even and whether the pattern remains legible as the koi moves. Yellowing skin, dull heads, weak luster, or messy color edges can reduce quality even on a healthy fish. Husbandry is the same as for other koi, but clear water and careful nutrition help show the sheen properly. Breeders often pair for both pattern and skin finish because metallic quality is easy to lose in casual selection.
